CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY

The history of Chulalongkorn University goes back to 1899 when King Chulalongkorn, King Rama v, ordered the conversion of a long building inside the palace into a civil officer’s training school. Later on, with the intention of improving Thailand’s standard of education, King Rama VI made the school into Chulalongkorn University.

Faculty of Liberal Arts Bldg.: This building represents the history of the university. The stucco designs on the north and south gables show the Royal insignia of the Chakri Dynasty.

Chakrabongse Bldg.: Located between the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science, this was established by HRH Prince Chulachakrabongse as a memorial to his father. Today, an exhibition of the university’s history is on show there.

Sala Phra Kiew: A multi-purpose building using for performances, exhibitions, meetings, lectures, and as a meeting place for faculties and students. The lower level houses offices, the post office and students’ associations.

Chulalongkorn University Book Centre: One of Bangkok biggest bookstores, the centre contains a selection of both academic and non-academic books as well as other printed matter. Computer searches can be made here.

Art Centre: Located on seventh floor of the Centre of Academic Resources (Central Library) building, the centre organizes regular exhibitions by both local and foreign artists.
